Texas Wildflowers

Take a drive to Washington County this spring to view the Texas Wildflowers

Home Texas Hill Country

It's that time of year again, a spring - time drive into the Texas Hill Country to enjoy the beauty of Texas wildflowers. From March to May, the road sides are alive with vibrant colors and showy bursts of blue, gold, purple and red.

One of the nicest drives for viewing wildflowers is Washington County. Take the Chappell Hill exit off HWY. 290 and be sure to stop at the visitors information building. There you can get a map of the Bluebonnet Trails wildflower drive. It also points out many historic stops along the way.

We decided to stretch our legs in the historic town of Chappell Hill. The people were friendly and we found some neat buys in the antique shops. Lunch was great at Bevers Kitchen. (be sure to try their homemade pies!)

The drive on FM 1155 to the "Washington on the Brazos" historic site was simply lovley. Along the way was a colorful display of Bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrush, Winecups, Primrose, Phlox, Buttercups, little yellow flowers and more. One stunning view was a field of golden Texas wildflowers.

There were many stands of Texas Bluebonnets and Indian Paintbrush. The road winds through scenic farmland and you never know what is around the next bend. One farm had the most beautiful hillside of bluebonnets. Another had a matched pair of impressive heavy horses.

The drive was beautiful and a perfect day trip to see the
Texas Wildflowers in Washington County.
